Plastic (or, more properly, polymeric materials) is one of the main components of municipal solid waste. Plastic is in fact part of our daily lives, as it is used to produce objects of any type, from containers to bags, from pipes to packaging. This happens because of its advantageous characteristics: it is simple to manipulate and re-use, low cost, it is easy to die, resistant to corrosion, water-repellent and resistant to bacteria and fungi. It is obtained, however, by processing non-renewable fossil fuels (primarily oil), and, above all, it is not biodegradable. The environment takes up to 200 years to dispose of a bottle or a plastic bag. For this reason, it is essential to provide for its recycling, to re-use it multiple times and to prevent it from polluting the environment.
In the Fusina plant, ECO-RICICLI VERITAS is responsible for collecting and sorting plastic that will be subsequently sent to the platforms of COREPLA (National Consortium for the collection, recycling and recovery of plastic packaging waste).
